Description:

Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. is currently looking for a CFO for Brookfield Energy Marketing Inc. (BEMI), its power marketing and sales team. This position presents an opportunity to participate in a growth oriented organization and to gain exposure and understanding of the energy industry. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BEMI, this role is ideally suited to a highly knowledgeable, career oriented CFO seeking a challenging opportunity.

As a member of the senior management team of BEMI, the CFO works closely with the COO in assessing and monitoring the financial performance of the business and in providing advice and recommendations to support the achievement of all business objectives. The overall responsibility of this position is to assist the COO in managing the business, to report the financial results and to protect the assets of the corporation.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Oversee the preparation of management reporting and GAAP financial statements in a complex power trading and marketing environment.
  • Ensure that appropriate processes, policies and controls are in place to meet accounting requirements and standards.
  • Oversee BEMI’s settlement, accounting, revenue reporting and treasury functions and quickly be in a position to assume the oversight of additional staff and teams.
  • Identify and implement projects to streamline and improve BEMI’s reporting and back office functions.
  • Provide direction and leadership to align BEMI’s back office functions with the business’ overall goals and objectives.
  • Accountable for leading, maintaining and developing staff required to complete all objectives.
  • Ensure an effective evolution of BEMI’s budgeting process the business grows and changes.
  • Oversee the integration of new assets from a financial perspective.
  • Ensure liaison with the corporate office on issues relating to financial analysis, reporting and forecasting.
  • Maintain an effective relationship with both internal and external auditors.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • A “hands-on” leader with 10+ years of experience and currently in a senior financial management role.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast pace environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Strong skills and experience in both operational reporting and public accounting.
  • Current knowledge and significant experience in the application of derivative and hedge accounting rules in both Canada and the U.S.
  • Proven track record of participating with senior management teams in resolving material business issues.
  • Strong organizational and decision making skills.
  • Experience in managing, mentoring and leading large teams.
  • Strong ability to positively influence situations and decisions.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing accounting and financial processes.
  • Experience in managing financial, accounting, treasury, tax and procurement functions and in dealing with related complex issues.
  • Ability to get involved at a detailed level to ensure accuracy and timeliness in all financial reporting and accounting matters.
  • Ability to deal effectively with external stakeholders. Strong communication skills (oral and written). French an asset.
  • Public accounting experience and knowledge. CA designation an asset.
