Reporting to the Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for tracking, recording and analyzing costs associated with the Canadian operations of Brookfield Power. The Cost Accountant will focus on the following activities:

• Prepare timely and accurate journal entries for general ledger as required in completing the monthly financial close process;
• Responsible for tracking and calculating accurate operating costs;
• Maintaining and ensuring that the cost system is up to date and prepare variance analysis;
• Review account activity to ensure account accuracy and make corrective journal entries;
• Maintain up-to-date cumulative costing information for projects;
• Prepare GST returns;
• Prepare weekly cash flow forecast and analysis;
• Prepare weekly bank reconciliations;
• Participating in the budgeting and forecasting process.

Candidate profile – Experience and qualifications

• Working towards or completion of accounting designation (CGA, CA or CMA) or a university degree in Accounting;
• Minimum three (3) years of related work experience;
• Knowledge or exposure to SOx would be an asset;
• Capable of managing difficult and demanding situations;
• Capable of solving problems and using sound judgment;
• Quality and detail oriented and able to meet tight deadlines;
• Excellent team player;
• Good knowledge of Excel, knowledge of Great Plains an asset;
• Bilingual (English / French).
