This position presents an opportunity to participate in a growth oriented organization and to gain exposure and understanding of the energy industry. This role is ideally suited to a highly knowledgeable, career oriented engineer seeking a challenging opportunity.

Reporting to the Manager, Credit Risk and Insurance, the incumbent will be part of a team who supports Brookfield Power in achieving effective Risk Management. By providing his expertise to the daily activities related to the credit risk function, the analyst will evaluate, analyze and monitor credit risk in an energy trading environment.

More specifically, the Analyst will have the following responsibilities:

  • Analyze counterparty credit risk and recommend appropriate credit limits and internal credit rating according to Risk Management Policy;
  • Monitor credit exposure to ensure compliance to Risk Management Policy on a daily basis and investigate and report instances of non-compliance;
  • Update and maintain information in the risk management system related to counterparties and credit limits;
  • Assist manager in assessing credit risk evaluation processes, technological solutions, mitigating processes and similar activities in order to improve the overall risk management process;
  • Create and analyze reports related to current and potential credit exposure, incoming and outgoing collateral, parent guaranty.
Candidate profile – Requirements
  • 1 year of experience related to credit risk or market risk management;
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics or accounting;
    Knowledge and exposure to financial analysis and counterparty credit evaluation;
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to understand advance financial concepts and translate them into applicable models combined with good financial statement analysis skills;
  • Resourceful and shows initiative and also capable of working in a team setting;
  • Ability to produce quality results in a busy, deadline driven environment with changing priorities;
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel;
  • Bilingual with strong English (verbal and written) communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, SQL and Visual Basic is preferred;
  • Pursuing a CFA designation or near completion;
  • Experience in the energy industry or other commodity/derivatives market;
  • Familiar with the mark-to-market of swaps and forward contracts.
