PARALEGAL - US OPERATIONS

Description:

Reporting to the Director of Legal Services for US Operations and part of a team of professionals, the successful candidate will work closely with the management team to support renewable power operations and head office activities. Responsibilities include corporate maintenance, regulatory filings, contract support and document management. This role is unique as the responsibilities are divided among the following activities:

  • Creating and maintaining a document management system and responding to inquiries for information contained therein;
  • Reviewing covenants and obligations in credit agreements, operating agreements and other contracts; and
  • Preparing various resolutions, corporate annual filings and business registrations;
  • Preparing minutes for board meetings;
  • Updating corporate chart and answering relevant inquiries regarding corporate entities; and
  • Maintaining corporate agent accounts / expense payments.

The Paralegal will work in a complex legal environment and deal with corporate entities in various US jurisdictions. This position also requires conducting research of corporate law matters and there are also opportunities for the preparation and review of basic legal agreements.

Candidate profile – Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a corporate or regulatory paralegal gained in a law firm or corporation;
  • Paralegal certification an asset;
  • Knowledge of corporate database and document management software;
  • Experience in independently handling minute book maintenance and review;
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented person who enjoys interesting and challenging work;
  • Flexible and capable of working in a dynamic fast pace environment;
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills; and
  • Familiarity with FERC, or other energy regulation a plus.
