Investing in Windpower Windpower
is making an important and growing contribution to the energy
supply and environmental goals of many European countries,
such as Denmark, Germany and Spain and is gaining increasing
attention in North America. As the fastest growing energy
technology in the world (22% annual growth in megawatts since
1990), wind energy holds promise as an important natural source
of renewable energy in North America too.
Brookfield Power is supporting the development of windpower
in Canada through our investment in Superior Wind Energy,
a joint venture with Harmony Wind Energy. Superior Wind Energy
is a Canadian owned and operated company with plans to develop
wind energy resources to supply the Ontario market with renewable
energy.
Superior Wind Energy is actively identifying and acquiring
long term leases and land options for wind park development
in Ontario and assessing wind park potential using state-of-the-art
equipment and resource measurement tools with a goal of providing
directly and/or with partners 1,000 megawatts of windpower
in Ontario by year 2007.

ISO Accreditation
ISO 14000 is a series of international standards on environmental
management, which provides companies with a framework for
the development of both their environmental systems and the
supporting audit programs. Recognized world wide as the standard
for excellence in environmental management, Brookfield Power’s
La Lievre River Power in western Quebec and Great Lakes Power
in northern Ontario are certified ISO 14001. This signifies
that we have achieved a standardized set of environmental
management tools to comply with laws and minimize the impact
of our operations on the environment. Click
