Brookfield Power Partners with Sault College on Energy Training Centre

Gatineau, Quebec, January 18, 2007 – Brookfield Power and Sault College today announced a partnership to enhance local training programs focused on the energy sector. Representatives of both organizations were on hand at Sault College to announce plans for the Brookfield Power Energy Training Centre.

Funding for the training centre, to be located on campus at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was made possible through government agencies, Brookfield Power and a number of private and public organizations.

The training centre will contain new instructional space that will provide students with access to upgraded vocational labs and shops, and serve as home to courses relating to wind energy that the College plans to introduce. Sault College also has plans to install a fully operational wind turbine on its campus before the end of 2007.

“The training programs will provide graduates with the level of education, employability skills and hands-on experience to create a strong workforce – one that will provide valuable contributions to companies like Brookfield Power immediately upon entering the labour market,'' said Andy McPhee, Vice President, Ontario Operations, Brookfield Power.

Over the last 12 months, Brookfield Power has worked hand-in-hand with Sault College to help design the Centre’s new teaching space and to develop course content to ensure that students graduate with training that will meet the needs of the energy sector.

“On behalf of the entire Sault College community, I would like to thank Brookfield Power for their generous support. This funding will allow us to continue to excel in trades and technology training,” says Max Liedke, Acting President, Sault College.

Construction on the new centre will start in the Spring 2007, and will be fully operational in the Fall 2007.
