Brookfield Renewable Power Contributes $200,000 to Ville de Gatineau to Develop a Public Use Area In Parc Maclaren

Gatineau, April 21, 2009. – Ville de Gatineau is pleased to announce that Brookfield Renewable Power is making a $200,000 contribution toward developing a public use area near parc Maclaren.

“This contribution, combined with the $370,000 invested by the city, will be used to develop parc Maclaren into a major centre for outdoor activities. With an area that opens onto the river that can accommodate nearly 10,000 people, the site will become the preferred location to hold large-scale festivals, concerts and other events” said Gatineau’s mayor, Marc Bureau.

“Parc Maclaren has undeniable natural features. In conjunction with the development of the Brady Bridge, the public use area will create a new access point to enter and exit parc Maclaren and help promote the integration of the developed and undeveloped sections of the Buckingham district. I would like to thank Brookfield Renewable Power for its commitment and collaboration on this project which has led to this exceptional partnership,” said Jocelyne Houle, Buckingham district city councillor.

Brookfield Renewable Power launched a “sustainable development initiative” aimed at providing financial support to local groups to help develop community projects that are consistent with the company’s environmental policy. The development of the public use area in parc Maclaren will also provide Brookfield Renewable Power with the opportunity to educate the public on hydroelectricity and the Dufferin generating station.

“By investing in the very heart of our community and allowing everyone to benefit from an exceptional site like parc Maclaren, we are affirming our commitment to this community. We are enthusiastic and proud to be associated with Ville de Gatineau’s project,” added Laurent Leclerc, General Manager, Quebec Operations for Brookfield Renewable Power.

Ville de Gatineau, in collaboration with the Buckingham Historical Society and Brookfield Renewable Power, will create information displays based on the theme “Hydroelectric Development in the Region” for the public use area. Brookfield Renewable Power owns four hydropower facilities on the Lièvre River—the Masson and Dufferin hydroelectric generating stations, as well as with its High Falls station in Bowman and its Rapide-des-Cèdres station in Notre-Dame-du-Laus.
