Community
Brookfield Power is an active contributor to the communities
in which we operate across North America. Together with our
affiliates and our employees, we help a wide variety of non-profit
organizations through leadership, volunteer activity and financial
contributions in the areas of education, health and the environment.
Other Community Initiatives
Picnicking, boating, fishing, hiking and swimming are just
some of the activities that you can enjoy at the more than
50 public access sites that Brookfield Power has developed
and maintains near our New York operations.
For a listing of these sites, located in the St. Lawrence
River, Lake Ontario and Hudson River regions, please see the

Brookfield Power’s designated recreational areas in
a safe and responsible manner to provide maximum enjoyment
for everyone. Please remember that these areas are located
at or near working dams and power stations and that visitors
should read and obey all posted signs and warnings.
Community Support
Our philanthropic activities range from support for local
community endeavours to leadership participation on behalf
of major public charities and institutions. For example, Brookfield
Power is a strong supporter of United Way/Centraide
and through our limited budget we contribute to hospital campaigns
and other health care agencies
In addition, The Brookfield Foundation provides matching
grants to recognize the leadership, volunteer and financial
contributions of Brookfield Asset Management’s employees
and officers, including Brookfield Power and Brookfield Properties,
in three main areas of giving: education, health and community
services. Together, the Foundation, Brookfield’s employees
and the officers of participating companies donate approximately
$4 million annually.
Brookfield’s affiliates have also developed a number
of community programs related to their businesses and areas
of operation. For example, The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation
was established by Royal LePage Residential Services and its
employees and agents to support women’s shelter organizations
across Canada and annually donates approximately $400,000.
